This Frozen Irish Coffee Recipe transforms the classic drink into a refreshing, icy dessert cocktail, combining strong coffee, Irish whiskey, sweetened cream, and chocolate for a smooth and indulgent treat. Perfect for warm days or as a unique dessert, this recipe features coffee and cream ice cubes blended with whiskey and topped with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle.

Ingredients

Scale

Coffee Ice Cubes

  • 2 cups strong black coffee (470 g, cooled)

Cream Ice Cubes and Whipped Cream

  • 1 ½ cups sweetened cream (355 mL), divided
  • Whipped cream (from remaining sweetened cream after freezing)

Alcohol and Chocolate

  • 3 oz Irish whiskey (90 mL), divided
  • 1 bar chocolate, melted (about 1 tablespoon for blending, more for drizzle)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Coffee Ice Cubes: Pour the strong black coffee into ice cube molds and freeze for 4 to 6 hours or until completely solid. These coffee cubes form the base of the frozen drink.
  2. Prepare Cream Ice Cubes: Pour sweetened cream into separate ice cube molds and freeze alongside the coffee cubes to maintain their smooth creaminess when blended.
  3. Whip the Cream: Whip the remaining sweetened cream (not used for ice cubes) using a mixer until soft peaks form. This whipped cream will be used later as a luxurious topping for the drink.
  4. Blend Coffee and Whiskey: Place 4 frozen coffee ice cubes and 1.5 oz of Irish whiskey into a blender. Blend on high speed until the mixture is foamy and well combined.
  5. Add Cream and Chocolate: Add 2 frozen sweetened cream ice cubes and 1 tablespoon of melted chocolate to the blender. Blend again until smooth and fully incorporated.
  6. Serve: Pour the creamy, frozen mixture into serving glasses. Top each with a generous dollop of whipped cream and drizzle with additional melted chocolate for richness and presentation.
  7. Enjoy: Sip and savor this unique frozen Irish coffee dessert, perfect for warm weather indulgence.

Notes

  • Use strong brewed coffee to retain bold coffee flavor after freezing and blending.
  • Melt chocolate gently in a double boiler or microwave in short intervals to avoid burning.
  • For a less sweet drink, reduce the amount of sweetened cream or use unsweetened cream to create your own sweetness level.
  • Make sure the whiskey is added gradually and blended well for smooth integration.
  • Whipped cream topping can be flavored with a splash of vanilla or a sprinkle of cinnamon for added depth.
