Wet Ingredients
- 1/2 cup softened butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg
Dry Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 tsp baking soda
- 1/3 tsp salt

- 1/2 cup M&Ms (divided, some reserved for topping)
- Preheat Oven and Cream Butter and Sugars: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Add Vanilla and Egg: Beat the mixture well until fully incorporated. Add the vanilla extract and the egg, then beat again until the mixture is light and fluffy.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, beating until just combined to form the cookie dough.
- Incorporate Chocolate Chips and M&Ms: Stir in the chocolate chips and most of the M&Ms, reserving some M&Ms to sprinkle on top before baking.
- Spread Dough in Pan: Evenly spread the cookie dough into an 8×6 inch (or 9×7 inch) baking pan. Then, sprinkle the reserved M&Ms over the top for a colorful finish.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 18–20 minutes, or until the surface turns a beautiful golden brown.
- Cool and Slice: Allow the cookie bars to cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, slice into squares and serve.
