Bread Dough:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
Fillings:
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1/2 cup fruit jam or jelly (strawberry or grape recommended)
- Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm milk and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy. Add flour, salt, and softened butter, then knead the mixture until you get a smooth and elastic dough, about 8-10 minutes. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Roll out the dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it on a floured surface into a rectangle about 12×15 inches.
- Add the fillings: Spread the peanut butter evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Then spread the jam gently over the peanut butter layer, ensuring an even distribution without mixing the two.
- Form the loaf: Carefully roll the dough from the longer edge into a tight log, pinching the edges to seal. Place the rolled dough seam-side down into a greased loaf pan.
- Second rise: Cover the loaf pan with a cloth and let the dough rise again for about 30-45 minutes until it rises slightly above the edge of the pan.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool and serve: Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing. Enjoy your peanut butter and jelly bread as is or toasted for a cozy treat.
Notes
- Use creamy peanut butter for easier spreading and a smoother texture inside the bread.
- You can substitute the jam with your favorite flavor like raspberry or apricot for variation.
- Ensure fillings do not spill out of the dough edges to prevent burning or leakage during baking.
- Store the bread in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temperature.
- For longer storage, slice and freeze the bread, then toast slices directly from frozen when ready to eat.
